The College of International Exchange at Shenzhen University (SZU) held a commencement ceremony for a group of international students yesterday.
This year, approximately 362 international students completed their study programs at the university, including short-term Chinese language learning programs and academic degree programs.
According to the College of International Exchange, nearly 100 of these international students will work or continue their studies in Shenzhen.
Lucia Andrea Baigorria, a Chinese language and literature major from Argentina, represented the undergraduates and delivered a speech during the ceremony.
In her speech, Baigorria mentioned that learning experiences are not only about acquiring knowledge, but also about gaining a better understanding of Chinese culture.
Baigorria, who expressed her love for the city for various reasons, such as its clean, beautiful environment and convenient public transport system, will continue her studies at SZU in a master’s degree program.
After studying at SZU for two years, Ji Eunchae, from South Korea, displayed fluent Chinese during an interview with Shenzhen Daily yesterday.
“I began learning Chinese in high school. I think Shenzhen offers many opportunities, and with SZU being a popular university in Shenzhen, I chose to study here,” Ji said.
Ji successfully passed a university test two years ago, enabling her to join the class in its third year. She said that the university’s policy that allows qualified foreign students to directly join a junior class is beneficial as it saves time for foreigners who have already obtained a bachelor’s degree but wish to also gain a degree in China.

“I am currently seeking a suitable job opportunity, and I want to stay in the city,” Ji said.

Accompanied by her mother from Vietnam, Truong Nu Kieu My was photographed holding a bouquet of flowers to commemorate her academic milestone at SZU.
She said that her most significant achievement at SZU was learning Chinese, adding, “My family has business connections with China, so I want to learn Chinese to assist with our business.”
Motivated by his father, who witnessed the rapid development of Shenzhen over the years, Dhruv Bharat Shah, from Kenya, came to SZU to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Chinese language and literature.
Shah appreciated the opportunities he had to experience diverse cultures. He has received a job offer from a tech company in Shenzhen and will be in charge of the company’s operating system management.
